Griff Gilbert is the Clinical Director and President of Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment Services (CATS) located in Boone, North Carolina in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains of Western North Carolina. Mr. Gilbert's practice is located next to to the campus of Appalachian State University in downtown Boone.
Griff Gilbert is a psychotherapist specializing in individual, couples, family therapy, and group work. Mr. Gilbert holds two professional practice licenses: He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is a Board Certified in Licensed Clinical Social Work. Mr. Gilbert competed his undergraduate studies in social work at Appalachian State University where he graduated summa cum laude. He completed his graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned his Master's degree in Social Work with a concentration in direct mental health practice with indiviuals and families.
Mr. Gilbert believes in the dignity and worth of every individual, regardless of their presenting issue, and enjoys a respectful and empathetic relationship with his patients. Due to his varied experience as a psychotherpist in mental health clinics, university counseling centers, trauma units, substance abuse programs, and private practice, Mr. Gilbert has worked with a broad spectrum of clients. Among his areas of expertise are: substance use disorders, mood disorders, marriage counseling, sexual addiction (pornography, etc) and sexual behavior problems, trauma and sexual abuse, couples, adolescents, and family therapy.
Mr. Gilbert is a forensic social worker who regularly consults with and works closely with attorneys. He conducts numerous types of evaluations for court, licensing boards, and offices of student conduct to include: substance abuse evaluations, mental health assessments, parental fitness evaluations, sex offender specific evaluations, and child-centered custody evaluations. He testifies as an expert witness in court cases in district, superior, and federal court in North Carolina and is a clinical member of the National Organization of Forensic Social Workers.
Mr. Gilbert frequently lectures at professional conferences, conducts trainings, and has published in national peer reviewed journals. He has been a university adjunct instructor and lecturer where he enjoys working with students to infuse direct clinical practice with student learning. Mr. Gilbert is a certified licensed clinical social work supervisor.
Mr. Gilbert has an easy-going and friendly demeanor and is also able to confront problematic behavior. He listens attentively and pateintly, and believes that most often the patient possess the answers they are looking for, but sometimes need guidance to discover them.
